My former neighbor, Mary Young, a relatively new empty nester, remarked on how free she feels with her nine kids out of the house. This feeling is common. Joy Smith, author of “The Empty Nest Cookbook,” encourages people to take advantage of it: “For the first time in years you can cook because you want to, not because you must. You have fewer people and palates to please, so cook in ways you’ve never dared.”
YouTube Live broadcasts used to be exclusively used by news reporters, live sports broadcasts and pop music stars. Now it’s established into our culture. Today, Live Streams are used by all kinds of different professional groups, businesses and Internet marketers to reach more people online.
YouTube Live is the most popular video streaming platform and more people worldwide view videos on YouTube every day than anywhere else. Recent stats show that there are 4 billion daily video views on YouTube from more than a billion accounts. Those are WOW numbers.
There are only about 9% of small businesses in the U.S. and Canada that use the YouTube Live to promote their products and services. Most business owners choose Facebook and Twitter as their social media business tools, which has resulted in a huge number of competing ads on Facebook and Twitter.
If you’re a business owner – or an Internet marketer – this is the best time to venture into video marketing using YouTube Live. Video is a great way to make your company and products visible to millions of potential customers. And, if you start using YouTube Live at this early stage early, you can acquire substantial following before too many others recognize its potential.
Develop Your Skills as a Video Host in YouTube Live
Video hosting requires skills that only a few people to date are ready to tackle. But, you have set your sights to explore video content marketing, you will develop your skills. The important thing is taking the first step to live streaming.
I am a big believer that the best way to learn hosting is to watch as many live video streams as you can. Pick up the positive hosting qualities from the good videos and incorporate them into your own broadcasts. And consciously avoid duplicating mistakes by paying attention to poor qualities and mistakes and staying away from them.
The next step is to create good content. Start with a business goal, for example introducing a new product or service by highlighting its features and advantages over competitors. You can also create a broadcast to address issues customers have raised. Mine your blog site and responses to your email marketing campaigns to gather customer feedback.
Once you have planned your content, prepare a script or a short draft of the things you want to discuss. Make it short and simple for your first YouTube Live broadcast. You can prepare for longer videos once you have sufficiently honed and tested your hosting skills.
Rehearsing for Your YouTube Live Broadcasts
Live streaming requires a test broadcast. This enables you to perfect your delivery, and to address technical issues that can crop up in YouTube Live broadcasts. Use test broadcasts to iron out glitches in your encoder or YouTube channel. Test broadcasts also allow checking your microphone, camera, and other equipment used in your live streaming.
One good feature of YouTube Live is its privacy setting. You can select a few of your friends or business partners to view the test broadcasts or previews. Call this a rehearsal, which you can repeat several times until you are satisfied with the quality of the broadcast.
Rehearsals also allow you to test YouTube Live chat, and your ability to handle comments during live broadcasts. This is important so you know how well you engage with your audience, and at the same time have a full delivery of your planned content.
Run a full rehearsal in the venue where you will do the streaming, Use the same set of equipment for rehearsals and for the actual event. Do not introduce a new component, in equipment or content, which you have not tested during the test broadcast.
Remember to close all unnecessary programs and applications, including antivirus software, when you do live streaming. Live streaming, particularly your YouTube Live broadcast software, require considerable computer resources. Your computer resources must be dedicated to your broadcast, without unnecessary programs running in the background.
Choosing the Content of YouTube Live Broadcasts
When incorporating video content marketing in your business plans, map out the contents of a series of videos for your products. A single video will not make much impact in your business, in the same manner that a single blog article will not result to a large following for your website.
This means you should be prepared to host YouTube live broadcasts regularly. In fact, your video marketing campaign provides you with the best opportunities for engaging with customers. You get to interact with them in real time, and they get answers to the most pressing concerns about your products or services.
Video content marketing provides a more personal way to engage with your customers. You can setup your YouTube Live broadcasts with very little or no cost at all, except for the cost of the computer and camera setup.
Remember that you have full control on the content of your video feeds. You can talk about any topic that can be translated into video format, including simple discussions about product features or the nature of your business. You can even incorporate a story that will make your customers stay and listen to the full content of your video stream.
The Benefits of YouTube Live Streaming
In addition to the huge viewership of YouTube videos, the YouTube Live app is owned by Google. This means your video streams have better chances of ranking in Google searches. As long as you provide good content that benefits the viewers. You may think that if you own a small business, the huge potential exposure of your company and brand may not count for much. However, you are thinking of now and not the future. Everything that you invest in your business now, including your first attempts at video hosting, has positive impacts on your business.
You can share YouTube Live streams across various social media platforms. When the stream is over, YouTube Live keeps the event archived for up to 12 hours in the Video Manager. You can create a local archive for your broadcasts, and edit them using the YouTube Video Editor.
YouTube Live events, or the edited version, can be included in regular YouTube video uploads. You can make it available to all YouTube viewers, or for the selected viewers based on the configured privacy settings.
The opportunities with YouTube Live are enormous and I encourage you to explore this app. To learn how to use it, check out our video training course. 20 short how-to videos and other material to get you up and running quickly. Here’s a sample video…
Lately more and more videos are appearing without narration or sound of any kind. Some do have music, but playing very soft.
The idea is to stop the heart stopping blast the has become a norm if your video comes on at high volume just when someone logs into your page. Google’s Chrome browser has already announced that they will no longer automatically play videos unless they are muted or have no sound. You know this will cause a ripple across the browser world.
What this means is that sites that have a video, or videos, will have to pre-mute them instead of automatically having sound when the video starts at the opening of a website. I can think of hundreds of sites where this happens. Most of the time it isn’t enough to give you a start, but those that try to get your attention with something loud have forced those that don’t to make changes.
This change will be in a new Chrome update, probably early in the new year.

With the job market unstable, and the long-term prospects at most job poor, one has to ask “is there a demand for affiliate marketers, especially in the overcrowded Internet?”
Yes, there is a huge demand, growing larger every day.
A big part of the reason is the continual demise of the bricks and mortar stores. Lord & Taylor’s main store in New York has gone for sale and the venerable Macy’s store closing 68 of 100 stores tells the story. There is good reasons that affiliate marketing has experienced steady growth throughout the ups and downs of online advertising—it works. And affiliate marketing has evolved to become a reliable source of sales for a wide range of marketers.
Affiliate marketing has evolved from the early years when some touted it as the future of online advertising, and others claimed it was the downfall of the medium. It’s now a sophisticated channel that generates anywhere from five to 25% of online sales for many of the world’s biggest brands.
Almost all major multi-channel marketers have an affiliate program of some kind. The important thing to remember is that affiliate programs now come in all shapes and sizes. The concept of a wide-open affiliate program with an unlimited and uncontrolled number of affiliates is a thing of the past. Nearly all marketers agree that affiliates add value to an online marketing effort, but the program must be tailored to meet the marketer’s objectives.
Affiliate marketing did not bring an end to other, higher priced forms of online media advertising. The success of the affiliate marketing in delivering sales cost effectively by way of a pay-for-performance model paved the way for other forms of performance-based advertising, to create acceptance among direct marketers. Affiliate marketing has evolved, with affiliates and marketers becoming more sophisticated and programs more integrated with other forms of online marketing.
But you can’t expect it to work all by itself. It takes work to make Affiliate Marketing “passive.” Top affiliate marketers make anywhere from $100,000 to $1,000,000 plus a year, working with a computer and an Internet connection.
The best part is that anyone can get into Affiliate Marketing and grow a real solid business. However some estimates think that 80% of all would be affiliate marketers quit within 3 to 6 months of starting an affiliate business online. These people then tell everyone that it was because affiliate marketing doesn’t work, when in reality it’s because they didn’t work their affiliate marketing business.
For the people that stick it out, learn it, and treat it like the business that it is, they end up make good money. How much? That’s up to you, and how much time and effort you put into it. Which is like most businesses.

Product reviews are a major component of affiliate marketing articles. There are two ingredients in these reviews. Those of others that you find on the Amazon or site you are dealing with (eBay, etc), and those you create.
Then there are two types of creation, and three or four styles.
The two types of creation are from actual experience (you own or have a copy of the product) and can speak from touch and feel knowledge, and by looking at what others have said about the product and rewriting their ideas in your own words. Not quite as effective as owning the product yourself, but far better than no reviews.
The styles of reviews are the way you present your reviews. Written, graphically (a drawing to explain something, a video or several and audio. You probably should do more than one style within a review, making it more powerful and complete.
I am often asked why just audio. First answer – I come from a long career as a broadcaster, so I believe in the spoken word. But it’s important to remember that people like to hear things, not necessarily always with pictures or the written word. And finally, you have to use audio with the video, so just have a separate feed for something you already have.
88% of consumers trust an online product review as much as a personal recommendation, making them super effective. Your reviews must be honest, easy to read, informative and relatable. I have these four things written above my computer screens to be sure I never forget.
Remember, nothing makes a product review more authentic than you actually using the product. So do everything in your power to get your hands on a product, because it allows you to create content much easier. If you review expensive items you’re not going to buy them, so you need to find people who have them. I often ask people online if they have a particular product.
I’ll give you a “for instance”. I wanted to review a camera, the new Sony a9. But I wasn’t about to buy it for several thousand, especially since I personally didn’t need it. Want it, yes, need it, no. So I first went to a local camera store that had one and asked if I could look it over and make notes. In return the store got credit where you could buy it.
I even took pictures of the camera in-store, and when I was done I went home and did the first draft of the review. Then I went to the local area photography forums and asked if anyone had the camera. Got an answer and explained what I was doing and what I wanted to do. The gentleman was very gracious and took me on a photo shoot for a couple of hours.
With all of this I was able to write a review of a camera I didn’t own or have in my possession. But it was hands on and complete from my perspective. Has it worked? I have received credit for three cameras sold through affiliate links and the local store called to tell me that someone came into the store and bought a camera, so they invited me back anytime I want to look at photography equipment.
Just get a little creative, and have patience. Once review for an item as expensive as this was is worth the effort, and of course the shelf life of the review is a long way into the future.
One more far less expensive, but unique product example is a dog wheelchair. Some background. My daughter and family had a Pug named Mabel. Mable got so she was unable to use her back legs, which obviously presented a huge problem. So they bought a chair, a wheel chair for Mabel as seen in this picture of Mabel and her chair.
Now you may have a dog oriented affiliate site. Would you have thought about dog wheelchairs to review? Not everyone would. But because of personal experience, I learned about these great units, and guess what, Amazon has several models, as does eBay and I’m sure they are not alone.
Using the example I use throughout, binoculars, here’s a couple of reviews from a particular binocular. Reviews are important as many more people check them out compared to what many people think look at reviews. For these examples, I use a WordPress Plugun that actually goes and finds the reviews for any product I am promoting.
